What is Cupping?

Cupping is a therapy in which suction is created by placing cups on the skin. This practice aims to increase blood flow and speed up the healing process. It’s commonly used to help muscle tension, relieve knots, or treat injury and overuse. 

Cupping increases blood flow, which promotes cell repair. Cupping, like acupuncture, is designed to create balance in your body. As part of naturopathic treatment, many ailments like chronic pain can be eradicated rather than just symptom treating. 

What Should You Expect From Cupping Treatments?

At your first treatment with Integrative Medicine, your appointment will cover an evaluation where we go through your medical history, any concerns you may have and develop a custom treatment plan. 

The doctor will then administer the treatment, which generally lasts around an hour.

Following your initial session, you will return for follow-up therapy as you and your doctor agreed upon. Other therapies or approaches (such as yoga, massage, herbal supplements, and acupuncture) that will improve the success of your treatment will be recommended by your doctor. The frequency with which a client need treatment will vary.

The most common side effects include bruising and minor soreness where the cups were implanted. Bruising and bruises from the therapy usually fade within a few days, but they can take up to a week to fade completely. These side effects are nothing to worry about, but you can always call our office if you are concerned.
